"This Treasure we possess in earthen vessels, to make it clear that its surpassing power comes from God and not from us. We are afflicted in every way possible, but we are not crushed; full of doubts, we never despair. We are persecuted but never abandoned; we are struck down but never destroyed. Continually, we carry about in our bodies the dying of Jesus, that in our bodies the life of Jesus may be revealed."
[2Cor. 4:7-10]
ONLY GOD KNOWS WHEN, where and how my life pilgrimage will end. As a kidney transplant recipient, nothing is certain except the constancy of God’s loving mercy. The proverbial sword of Damocles is always hanging precariously over my head.
In the remaining years of my life, I aspire to hold Patriarch Joseph in the Old Testament as my model in assisting our people in prudent stewardship and sharing of God’s gifts. I dream that time will eventually come down when we will enjoy living in our communities, "where nobody is so poor that he has nothing to share, where nobody is so rich that he has nothing to receive."
I may not have the privilege of realizing my grandiose and noble dreams for the realization of God’s Kingdom of love and friendship, compassion and healing, justice and peace. But I find consolation in the life of Patriarch Moses who had only a glimpse of the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey.
I acknowledge how, in the loving plan of God, the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph, accompany my personal and our family’s life-pilgrimages. Grateful to God for the gift of life, the gift of our family and the gift of priestly vocation, I aspire to creatively pursue till the end of my life-pilgrimage in whatever way I can to promote the apostolate of friendship through the works of mercy and enrichment of marriage and family life.
